Cooking Prodigy: Chopped Jr. runner-up, Brooks, takes part in Chefs of the World event in Atlanta

LaGrange native and Chopped Jr. runner-up Zikei Brooks, 14, diced, baked and glazed Monday night at the 13th annual “Chefs of the World: A Taste of Fame.”
The event was held by The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta to help raise scholarship funds for college students.
The Callaway Middle School student helped make stuffed mushrooms, vegan bruschetta and honey glazed teriyaki chicken. Brooks said he prepared the food for more than 250 people at the event, and it was all gone by the end of the night.
“It was amazing,” Brooks said. “It was a great experience. I learned a lot.”
At the event there were celebrity guests, including two Atlanta Hawks basketball players and actor Emmanuel Lewis.
After cooking the appetizers, he got to stay with some head chefs and help serve and plate the food.
Brooks said he is looking forward to competing in another competition. He had to compete at the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival to get to participate in the Chefs of the World event.
Brooks said he gave away all of his business cards at the event.
“It was just an honor,” Brooks said.
Next year, Brooks said he plans on attending Callaway High School. He is the son of Aldes Brooks.
