Mrs. Joyce Sherrer Railey

Joyce Sherrer Railey, age 78, of Woodbury, Georgia, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange.
Mrs. Railey was born April 24, 1940, in Troup County, Georgia, the daughter of Willie Lee Sherrer and Annie Garrett Sherrer. She was raised in Troup County and prior to marriage worked five years at the Kex Plant of Callaway Mills in LaGrange.
She was a homemaker, and when her children started school, she began working for the Meriwether County Board of Education in the school lunch room of Woodbury Elementary. She later went on to work in the lunch rooms of Woodbury High School and Manchester High School. She was a member of Raleigh United Methodist Church, where she taught the elementary Sunday school class, was president of the UMW and was actively involved in the annual vacation Bible school and church missions. Mrs. Railey loved cats, flowers and traveling to the mountains. She was also very talented as an artist and seamstress, applying those talents to painting and the crafting of ceramics and quilt making.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Sherrer Hamlin, and three brothers, W. L. Sherrer, Jr., Leolin Sherrer and Millard Sherrer.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Railey, daughter Jeannene Railey and son Greg Railey, all of Woodbury; two grandchildren; Tyler Lynn Railey and Hunter Brock Railey of Minnesota; a sister, Judith Railey (Richard) of Woodbury; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Wanda Railey Owen of Moreland, Georgia, and Paula Railey Mixon of Hull, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Raleigh United Methodist Church, 167 Raleigh Rd., Woodbury. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
