New restaurant opens in Hogansville

Chandra Dorsey had grown up helping her mother in her restaurant, where fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and okra were common items on the menu.
Dorsey had always wanted a restaurant of her own, and saw that dream come true Thursday when the Heavenly Café — her new restaurant — opened in Hogansville.
And the menu looks a lot like the one her mother, Dianne Wiburn, used at her restaurant. There’s fish, chicken, wings, okra, coleslaw, hushpuppies and a bar full of vegetables and other sides. Dorsey said her mother gave her the push needed to start the restaurant after overcoming stage four cancer.
“That inspired me to keep pushing and keep moving,” Chandra said. “The motivation of her not giving up motivated me to do more in life. I love the kitchen and it motivated me.”
The restaurant has a daily lunch bar, which is open until the afternoon. The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
“I’m following my mom’s footsteps,” Dorsey said.
