The LaGrange and Callaway softball teams will be on the road next week for the opening round of the state playoffs as they look to keep their seasons alive.
Callaway, the number four team from Region 5-AA, will be at Region 8-AA-champion Social Circle on Wednesday.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4 p.m., and if needed, a third and deciding game would be on Thursday.
LaGrange, which finished third in Region 5-AAAA, will travel to Watkinsville to face Oconee County, which is the number two team from Region 8-AAAA.
They’ll play a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m., and if needed, a third game would be Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
LaGrange heads to state riding a wave of momentum after going 3-0 in the region tournament.
After sweeping a doubleheader from Troup on Tuesday, LaGrange blanked Cedartown 5-0 on Thursday to finish third.
LaGrange (21-7) has won nine of its past 11 games, and four in a row.
Oconee County (15-12) reached its region-championship game before losing to Madison County 11-2.
Callaway appeared to be on the verge of playing for a region championship when it took a 7-0 lead over Heard County in the semifinals.
Heard County rallied for a 10-7 victory, though, and it went on to beat Lamar County in the region-title game.
Callaway lost to Bremen 4-2 in the third-place game.
