City crews continue beautification efforts along the third segment of The Thread on Broad Street.
Twenty trees were planted this week along the third segment of The Thread, and additional trees will be planted in the coming weeks to continue the tree-lined streetscape along Broad Street.
“We are excited that fall is here, and we finally got to start our Thread landscape project on the third segment,” said Natalie Hale, The Friends of The Thread executive director. “The trees being planted along The Thread are Bosque Elms. These elms are often used in urban areas as they are great street trees. They are drought tolerant and relatively low maintenance.”
Crews also finalized installation of a utility pole at Springdale and Broad that will support the traffic light at that intersection. Several utility poles were removed and utility lines were placed underground along this section of The Thread.
Eight street lights are now lined along Broad Street from the roundabout to Springdale Drive.
The third segment of The Thread is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Construction will begin on Panther Way within the LaGrange College campus as well as along Country Club Road in the coming weeks.
