Thomas Lewis Matheny

Thomas Lewis Matheny, 80, of LaGrange, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, from WellStar West Georgia Hospice.

Mr. Matheny was born Sept. 16, 1938, in LaGrange, Georgia, to the late John Thomas Matheny and Mary Frances Potts Matheny. He retired from Duracell and was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Matheny was also a member of First Baptist Church Merrymakers, Active Life of LaGrange and was a long time sponsor of Lighthouse Children’s Home in Costa Rica. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Richard “Ricky” Matheny; and two sisters, Erma Lee Thrower and Evelyn Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Theresa Eudonice Yates Matheny; children, Elaine (Jimmy) Moore, Tony (Alisa) Matheny, and Jennifer (Troy) Martin; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Eula Mae Bowen, Bernice Bannister, Nellie Poppham, and Corene Usher; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The gathering of family and friends will be 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at Faith Baptist Church. The celebration of life service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Yancey officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lighthouse Children’s Home in care of Faith Baptist Church.
