VALLEY, Ala. – It was a winning road trip to Alabama for Callaway’s basketball teams.

In the boys’ game, Callaway (10-10) avenged an earlier loss by beating Valley 60-57.

It was close throughout, with Callaway making the plays down the stretch to secure the road win.

“We played defense, we hustled back, and made some critical free throws down the stretch,” Callaway head coach Terry Hayes said.

No one shot free throws better than Demetrius Coleman, who was 10-of-10 from the line on the way to a 16-point night.

Duke Simpson also scored 16 points, and Antinez Blount and Javontay Boddie added nine points apiece.

Valley had the ball at the end and a potential game-tying 3-pointer didn’t find the mark.

In the girls’ game, Callaway (10-8) finished off a regular-season sweep of Valley with a 54-47 victory.

Senior Kierra Jackson had a monster night for Callaway with 16 point and 19 rebounds.

Qua Beasley added 14 points while making four 3-pointers, and Niakoe Burks scored six points.

Callaway’s teams will return to Region 5-AA play with today’s road games against Bremen, with the girls’ game starting at 2:30 p.m., and the boys’ game to follow.

Both Callaway teams are in second place in the region with 7-2 records.

Callaway has three region games remaining.
