Deacon Lewis Gates passed away Friday.

He was born April 27, 1938, in Pine Mountain, to the late Deacon Mark and Louella Davis Gates.

“Snap,” graduated from Ethel W. Kight High School in 1957. Lewis was a faithful member of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church and served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joesphine Gilbert Gates; three stepsons,  Andre Woodyard, Derrick (Toni) Woodyard, and Robert (Shaneika) Lindsey; sister, Willie K. Pace, Brooklyn, New York; four nieces, three nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.

The service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The family will be at their home at 100 Cedar Creek Court. The excellent care of Mr. Gates is being provided by Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
