Grangers play two in Alabama

OXFORD, Ala. – The LaGrange Grangers played a doubleheader at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. on Monday, and they came up short in both games against quality opponents from Alabama.

In the first game, LaGrange lost to Bob Jones 4-2 after making things interesting with two runs in the seventh inning.

In the second game, LaGrange fell to Florence 7-1.

In the Bob Jones game, Jake Cardwell and Matthew Morgan both did a solid job on the pitcher’s mound for LaGrange.

Jake Cardwell started and pitched four innings and gave up three runs.

Although Cardwell only allowed two hits, he walked four batters.

Matthew Morgan pitched the final three innings for LaGrange, and he held Bob Jones to one run on three hits, and he didn’t walk anyone.

Cardwell and Morgan both had four strikeouts.

Walton Lanier and Mason Green each had two hits and an RBI for LaGrange.

Cole Sanders walked twice and scored a run.

Brant Williams reached on a walk, and pinch-runner Sam Yates came around to score.

In the second game, LaGrange had a 1-0 lead after two innings, but Florence took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning.

Florence scored two more runs in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.

Mason Green, Will Alford, Trent Bailey, Cole Sanders and Landon Tucker each had hits for LaGrange.

The hits for Bailey and Alford were doubles, and Tucker had LaGrange’s RBI.

Brant Williams started and pitched four innings for LaGrange, and Sam Yates threw the fifth inning.

Blake Hadaway threw a scoreless seventh inning.
