Elizabeth “Libba” Mallory Oubre, 64, died March 9, 2019 surrounded by her loving children.
Libba was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Mallory, Jr. She graduated from LaGrange High School and received her Registered Nursing degree from LaGrange College. As a nurse she cared for patients in nursing homes and hospice before spending 33 years at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. For the last 22 years she cared for thousands of women and their newborns as a clinical coordinator and charge nurse on the OB floor. In 2016, she was recognized as a Nurse of the Year where it was noted, “She loves to teach students, new nurses, and nursing assistants the importance of making each patient feel cared for and ensuring they receive the best care possible. She is loved by everyone she encounters and always displays a caring heart for others. She has even been witnessed going to the gift shop to buy pink or blue ribbons to hang on patient doors for new moms who do not have family support or money to buy their own ribbons. She shows patients the true heart of a nurse.”
Libba loved all animals and her home was often filled with numerous dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, sheep, flying squirrels, rabbits, and ducks. She never turned a stray away. She even had a pet skunk for several years. She was an avid rider who preferred riding bareback.
Libba’s family and friends will always remember her generous heart, her desire to serve others, her warm smile, her positive spirit, and her love. She was a gifted storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor. Her family is comforted in knowing that Libba is now dancing with Jesus and that she is being embraced by Gran, Grandmother, and many beloved family and friends who were called Home before her.
She is survived by her five children and their families: Kerry (son) and Brook Mallory and their children Sydney and Noah; Cason Mallory (son); Margaret (daughter) and Jim Williams and their children Emma, Andrew, and Preston; Hannah (daughter) and Brent Parrott and their children Mallory, Luke, and Case; and Charlie Oubre (son). She is also survived by her five siblings: Art Mallory, III; Peter Mallory, Sr; Ned Mallory; Tim Mallory; and Margie Green. She had 15 nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at First Baptist Church on the Square. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15
