The community is invited to attend Downtown LaGrange’s annual patriotic celebration on Friday, June 28 at Sweetland Amphitheatre. Gates open at 6 p.m.
Festivities begin with a meet and greet with Rosie the Riveter, portrayed by Carol Cain, in the Boyd Pavilion from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Local combat veterans, active duty military members and their families are encouraged to attend the meet and greet and stay to enjoy a patriotic concert on the Sweetland stage as honored guests. The LaGrange Community Band, an all adult, non-audition, concert band consisting of amateur, professional and retired musicians, will perform on the Sweetland stage at 8:00 pm. Patriotic big band music such as The Star Spangled Banner, along with John Philip Sousa marches, will be highlights of the program directed by Neal Brumbeloe. As soon as the sun sets, the movie – Mary Poppins Returns will be shown on a huge outdoor screen on the Sweetland stage. A limited number of stage side tables are available for concert goers to reserve and prizes will be awarded for the table with the best Red, White & Blue decorations. Tables can be reserved by contacting Barbie Watts at (706) 298-4534.
Sunsets at Sweetland events are sponsored by Downtown Partners and are free and picnic approved. Outside food and beverage may be brought in. Local vendors will also be selling Frios Gourmet Pops, Crave Cookies, Holloway’s Pork Skins and Brats, sodas, wine and beer during the event.
