Over the past year, 12 residents of Twin Fountains Home have collectively worked together to create 12 paintings to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.
“Each month we do a painting and they all take turns doing strokes on the painting and then we hang them up until September,” said Activities Coordinator Andria Powell. “We are so proud of all of them. Each year it has become bigger and better.”
All 12 paintings were put on display with a bid sheet outside of the cafeteria at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. New to this year’s auction was a live bidding of the art pieces on Facebook.
“These paintings always turn out wonderful,” Powell said. “We do these paintings once a month, and we always get a good response from it.”
The group activity gives the senior residents a chance to participate in something that gives them a sense of accomplishment and raises funds for a good cause.
“Completing the art work pieces feeds their self-worth and really encourages them,” Powell said. “Just because you are in a nursing home does not mean everything has to stop. It gives them a way to push boundaries.”
Each year the group raises approximately $600 from the auction, which will fund supplies for the next set of 12 paintings they will do.
