The Troup Tigers, playing on a muddy field at Cedartown, lost 15-8 on Friday night in a key Region 5-AAAA game.
Troup (5-3 overall) fell to 2-2 in region play, and it has a critical home game against Central-Carroll next Friday. Troup can secure one of the region’s four playoff spots with a victory over Central-Carroll.
Trailing 3-0, Troup took the lead early in the second quarter on a touchdown run by Kobe Hudson and a two-point conversion run by Trey Williams.
Cedartown answered with a touchdown late in the half, and it led 9-8 after an unsuccessful two-point try.
It was still a 9-8 game midway through the fourth quarter when Troup went for it on fourth down deep in its own territory, and Cedartown took over after an incomplete pass.
The Bulldogs scored on the next play to take a 15-8 lead, and the Tigers were unable to answer.
