Man in custody following reported kidnapping, aggravated assault

A man is in custody following a reported kidnapping and aggravated assault on Tuesday morning.
Around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in regard to a woman who had been stabbed.
According to a press release from the LPD, the victim was suffering from a stab wound to her rear torso and abrasions around her neck. She reportedly said that she was involved in a domestic dispute with her live-in boyfriend, Billy McCants, at their residence.
According to Detective Milton Ligon, the incident is believed to have started around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. The victim reportedly told police that McCants assaulted her with a steak knife and choked her by her neck to the point of unconsciousness. According to the press release, the victim told police that during the assault McCants dragged her into her car and drove her outside the city limits of LaGrange without her authority and continued to assault her, before bringing her back home.
The victim reportedly told police that she escaped upon arriving back at their residence.
McCants is charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping. The LPD said McCants was arrested Tuesday.
