Domestic incident leads to death investigation

A death investigation is underway after a man involved in a domestic related incident Thanksgiving morning took his own life in the parking lot of Daewon America.
The LaGrange Police Department responded to Daewon, located at 200 Piedmont Circle, in reference to a domestic incident at 7:57 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release from LPD. Police said the initial call to 911 indicated that a female employee of Daewon America had told co-workers and security that she had been threatened by an estranged boyfriend with a gun at a location in West Point, Georgia overnight and that the boyfriend was in the Daewon parking lot.
Officers made contact with the man identified as the employee’s estranged boyfriend, Fredi Rodas-Lopez, according to the press release. Lopez allegedly presented a firearm and began making threats to harm himself. Officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but Lopez shot himself, according to the press release. Police officers, fire and EMS rendered medical aid to Lopez, and he was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center where he later died.
