The Fine Arts Department of Point University will present “A Point Community Christmas” on Friday.
The concert is free, and two performances will be offered at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Due to crowd size, the annual event has been moved to Spring Road Christian Church in Lanett.
“It’s our annual Christmas gift to the community,” said Lanier Motes, fine arts director.
The evening will include performances by the ensemble choir, concert band and string orchestra.
One featured piece will be a six-hand, one-piano holiday medley played by three faculty members.
MusiKids, a community children’s choir, is also involved in the program.
“MusiKids is an outreach for elementary age students to give them music education and performance opportunities, like teaching them to read music and singing,” Department Chair Dr. Chapel McCullough said. “They will be performing a couple of songs by themselves and a couple with the university choir.”
Conductors for Friday night’s performances will include Dr. Chapel McCullough (concert band), Donna Weaver (MusiKids and university choir) and Cyndi Wilson (strings).
“The concert will feature a variety of sacred and secular Christmas music, with different types of performing ensembles,” McCullough said. “This will be a good opportunity to get in the Christmas spirit with great Christmas and holiday music.”
Admission is free but an offering will be received to benefit the Fine Arts department. Proceeds will help purchase equipment, technology and instruments, according to McCullough.
