Lady Tigers remain unbeaten

The Troup Lady Tigers overcame a halftime deficit to beat Cedartown 47-37 on Wednesday to remain unbeaten.

Troup led 13-11 after the first quarter, but Cedartown rallied in the second quarter to take a 24-19 lead at the half.

Troup responded with a strong third quarter to take a 32-28 lead, and it pulled away in the final quarter.

Troup improved to 18-0 overall, and 8-0 in Region 5-AAAA.

Senior Amber Gilbert powered Troup with 18 points, with 15 of those points coming in the second half.

Alexcia Murphy added 11 points while pulling down 16 rebounds, and Jada Green and Monyia Murphy had eight and six points, respectively.

In the boys’ game, Troup was unable to overcome a difficult first half on the way to a 67-51 loss.

The Tigers couldn’t get anything going offensively in the first half, and they trailed 22-11 heading to the break.

The Tigers picked up the pace offensively in the second half and scored 40 points, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.

Cedartown went 14-of-19 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to put it away.

Camren O’Neal led Troup with 11 points while pulling down seven rebounds.

Troup’s teams will visit LaGrange on Saturday, with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow.

Earlier this season, LaGrange and Troup split their games.

Troup’s girls’ team eased to a 54-22 victory.

LaGrange’s boys’ team held on late for a 58-54 victory.
