The Troup County Fire Department has announced the promotion of Garon “Rusty” Brown, Jr. as new Training Captain/Safety Officer, effective Jan. 29.
According to the county, Brown has been employed with the fire department as a firefighter/EMT since August 2016.
During his employment with the fire department, he has earned certifications in health, wellness and fitness, including the Georgia Smoke Diver Certification.
A news release from the county says he has demonstrated dedication to the fire service through enhanced training and discipline, and he has acquired extensive knowledge of fire and rescue emergency preparedness procedures.
As training captain, he will be responsible for the development and delivery of instructional programs for fire personnel, including the training, recruitment and retention of the volunteer fire program.
Brown will conduct and oversee training classes and programs, supervise all in-house career and volunteer firefighter training, promote safety during all operations and activities and develop and implement policies regarding safety best practices that meet the requirements of Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), Georgia Firefighter Standards & Training Council, Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma, and State of Georgia laws.
“He is excited to begin his advanced role within the fire department and is eager for the opportunity to improve knowledge, training, and standards within the department, as this has been his ultimate goal since he began working for the county,” the news release from the county said.
Brown is a lifelong resident of Troup County. He resides with his wife, Chesna, and daughter, Stella, and is awaiting the birth of their second child in July.
