It was a stress-free night at the office for the Troup Lady Tigers.

Facing Cedartown in a Region 5-AAAA showdown on Tuesday night, Troup continued its quest for a perfection with a convincing 58-32 victory.

The Lady Tigers (20-0 overall) improved to 10-0 in Region 5-AAAA, and they’re two wins away from an unbeaten regular season.

Troup hosts Central-Carroll on Friday before closing the regular season at Cartersville on Saturday.

“We get out there in practice and we work hard,” said sophomore Aniya Palmer. “Everybody’s working hard, and I guess it just pays off.”

In Tuesday’s game, the Lady Tigers took control early, surging to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter, and they never looked back.

“We started slow the last time we played them, so we wanted to go out and set the tone,” said Troup head coach Carla Thornton.

Amber Gilbert led Troup with 19 points while making 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, and Aniya Palmer added 10 points.

Monyia Murphy had seven points, Alexcia Murphy scored six points, and 10 different players scored at least two points.

“Everybody got a chance to play tonight,” Thornton said. “Some of them got in and made some baskets, so that was huge to see them get in the book.”

Gilbert had six points in the first quarter as Troup built an 11-point lead, and the senior scored eight more points in the second quarter to help her team go up 36-13 at the break.

The Lady Tigers had a 50-21 lead through three quarters.
