Marie Adams passed away on March 7, 2020, following a long illness. She was 92.
Marie was born March 17, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated Germantown High School and was employed as a licensed dental technician assistant. Although a long time resident of LaGrange, Marie always held a special fondness for Philadelphia.
She married Joseph F. Krafka in 1950. They moved to LaGrange in 1958, where Dr. Krafka was Medical Examiner and Director of Pathology for City-County Hospital (WellStar West Georgia Medical Center).
Marie enrolled at LaGrange College and received her bachelor’s in religion and psychology in 1965. In 1968, she purchased Wooding’s Gift Shop in LaGrange which she operated until 1978, when she moved to Atlanta to work for Gorham Silver Company in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. She returned to LaGrange to join the Creative Napery Division of Milliken as a marketing consultant. Marie retired from Milliken after 18 years.
With her artistic talents calling to her, she worked for many years in her retirement as an interior designer and artist. Marie was ahead of her time in her art and design. Pieces came to life from concrete ties, sand, tar and her favorite, dried magnolia leaves. Nothing was impossible for her to duplicate in an art piece, a faux finish for a piece of furniture, or a unique hand painted mural for a dining room. Many people in LaGrange continue to enjoy her work in their homes and offices.
Marie is survived by one sister, Terrie Schramko of Earleville, Maryland; two daughters, Karin (Rod) Thompson of La Grange and Barbara (Richard) Henny of Orlando, Florida; and one granddaughter Helen (Justin) Brozanski of Orlando, Florida.
The gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange, Georgia. Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to City of LaGrange Animal Shelter or Lagrange-Troup County Humane Society in her name.
