On Saturday, hundreds of pancakes were flipped and more than 1,000 sausage patties were cooked during the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange’s Annual Pancake Breakfast. This long-standing event in the community has been put on every year for the past 25 years, and each year it gets bigger and bigger.
Of course, the event is about more than just pancakes, although the flat cakes are the main event.
The majority of the money raised at the pancake breakfast goes toward scholarships for local high school seniors. Kiwanis Club President-Elect John Carden said there are two scholarships. Both of them are for $25,000, one for West Georgia Technical College and the other for LaGrange College. This year the club will give out six scholarships totaling $8,000 through the Kiwanis Club of LaGrange Dr. Robert E Gordon Scholarship.
In true community spirit, almost everything used for the breakfast was donated. IHOP donated the batter for the pancakes, and Piggly Wiggly and Kimble’s Food by Design donated food products for the fundraiser.
We applaud the Kiwanis Club, which does a tremendous job with this event each year.
We also thank everyone who bought a ticket.
