Dear Editor, I want to share my thoughts regarding my friend, Tommy Callaway, who is currently seeking a position on the school board.

My family and I have known Tommy and his wife for over 20 years and have grown to be incredibly grateful for the kindness, generosity and genuine support they have shown us.

When we have been in need, we have always been able to count on Tommy to contact us asking what he can do to help.

If we have experienced health concerns, we weren’t surprised to hear from Tommy if only to say we were in his thoughts and prayers. What’s more is that he unabashedly gives of himself and his means with no thought of anything in return. Frankly, it’s a trait I wish we saw more in the world. One characteristic of Mr. Callaway that stands out with me is how he couples intellect with common sense.

Having spent the majority of my career as a teacher, I can tell you without any doubt school systems across the country are in desperate need of leaders who tackle issues directly impacting our teachers and students with both an acumen for problem-solving critical needs but also the common sense to put solutions in place. Tommy Callaway is that sort of leader.

His commitment to integrity and a sense of duty to others’ wellbeing makes him a choice candidate for a position on the school board.  I am thankful that my family and I are blessed to enjoy our friendship with Tommy.

I also know any school board able to utilize his leadership, insights and desire to serve will create an educational environment for students to not only succeed but thrive.
