A new 240-unit apartment complex could open in LaGrange by the end of July. 

According to a news release from Arlington Property Management, the new complex is called The Yard on Mill, and it’s under construction currently at 150 Mill Creek Parkway in LaGrange. 

The owner of the project is Mill Creek Partners, LLC. Arlington Construction Services is the general contractor, and Arlington Property Management will provide leasing and manage the property. Charles Haskett, founding principal of Bonavic, is the developer for the project. 

Haskett said the new property is a top-notch development that will add something new to LaGrange. 

“It’s as nice and anything you would find in Metro Atlanta,” he said. “It’s a Class A development.” 

In a news release, Haskett said the property is a first large-scale, market-rate apartment community built in LaGrange in a while. 

“The tax benefits of this location were attractive, as was the charm of the downtown with its mix of restaurants, a new brewery, new amphitheater, LaGrange College and historical significance,” he said. “This small town has a lot of character.”  

Haskett said the complex has been under construction since this past fall and is scheduled to have its first building ready for occupancy in July. He said the company is hiring staff now. 

Haskett said when coming up with the name, choosing names with significance is part of his company’s culture. He said that the growth of LaGrange during the 1800s was fueled by the textile industry, which is still present today, and the name, The Yard on Mill, pays homage to that. 

“We were thinking, yard, as in a yard of fabric — as well as something that helps create a sense of place — a gathering place,” Haskett said in a news release. 

The apartment community includes five different floor plans, featuring one, two and three-bedroom apartment homes. The community will consist of a clubhouse with a leasing center in one part, and a place for residents to relax, play games, sit at pub-style tables and watch television. 

“We want that to be a place for residents to hang out and do what they want,” Haskett said. 

Additionally, Haskett said a café, conference room, fitness center, and saltwater pool would be part of the apartment complex’s amenities. He said those types of amenities are a vital part of building new properties in today’s market. 

“People are looking for a certain lifestyle,” Haskett said. “They want high amenities and maintenance-free living.” 

Inside the apartments, each will include a mudroom, a patio, and washer and dryer. 

The news release said several units would have stainless steel appliances, and in units with two restrooms, one will have a stand-up show and the other will have a tub/shower combination. 

Tammy Wyble, president of Arlington Property Management, said they are excited to move forward. 

“The clubhouse and leasing center should come online at the end of May, and pre-leasing will begin in June,” she said in a news release. “The Yard on Mill complements our current portfolio and plays to the strengths of our management team. We’re looking forward to leasing and managing this beautiful community and to being in LaGrange.”

LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton has said that he’s looking for a way to create attractive housing options for all residents in LaGrange. 

“I’m very excited to see this new apartment complex coming to LaGrange,” he said. “We know that the housing demand is strong in LaGrange, and we will continue to encourage developers to bring a variety of multi-family and single-family housing options to our city.”
