They’ll be rivals this fall, but for the moment, a group of softball players from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup are happy to be teammates.

The Coweta Select 18-and-under softball team, which finished second in a tournament in Rome last weekend, features players from a number of area schools, including the three Troup County high schools.

The team features four players from LaGrange High, two from Troup, and one from Callaway.

There are also players from Flint River Academy, Heard County, Northgate, Central-Carroll and Carrollton High on the team.

Jeff Hall is the head coach, and he enjoys seeing players from different schools join together and happily co-exist.

“They see what it’s like to compete with each other, instead of against each other,” said Hall,e and whose daughter Alyssa Hall is a team member. “It’s a great experience, and I really love what I get to do. I enjoy my kids, and I enjoy the parents.”

The team had a strong showing at the tournament in Rome, making it to the championship game before falling short.

Coweta Select will participate in a handful of other tournaments before the summer is over, helping the players prepare for the upcoming high-school season.

“You’re helping them get ready to do their job in high school, and be with their teams,” Hall said.

Among the team members are LaGrange High seniors Camden Smith, Madison Dennis, Malone Aldridge and Jacee Marable.

All four players are four-year starters, and they helped LaGrange reach the Class AAAA state finals last season.

Another member of the team is Alora Vetsavong, who’ll be a sophomore at Callaway this season.

Two other team members, Ramsey Clark and Catherine Smalley, will be freshman at Troup High this fall.

“I’ve got a great group of kids, and a great group of parents,” Hall said.
