At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old male entered the LaGrange Police Department with a gunshot wound to his chest after attacking someone at CVS on Morgan Street.

According to LPD Sgt. Robert Kirby, Tony Williams ran from CVS to LPD after attacking someone with a scaffolding foot jack.

Kirby said the victim reported he was at CVS to get some medication when Williams approached him aggressively with the jack and then began to strike him with the jack.

“We think that maybe he was having mental issues, and that is why he attacked,” Kirby said.

A press release from LPD stated that the victim told officers he was in fear for his life so he drew the pistol he was open carrying, and shot Williams in the chest area. Williams fled the scene on foot and ran to the police department, where officers located him and called for an ambulance.

Williams was transported to Columbus Midtown Medical Center for treatment and is being charged with aggravated assault.

Kirby said the victim had no major injuries from being struck by the jack.

This incident is still under investigation. If anyone has any information about this incident, contact the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
