In what has become a summertime tradition, the softball teams from Callaway, LaGrange and Troup will get together on Saturday for the Hope for a Day games.

As has been the case in previous years, funds raised will go to the local H.O.P.E. for a day organization, and cancer survivors will throw out the first pitch before each game.

The games were supposed to be played earlier this month, but Troup was unable to participate because of a Covid-19 issue.

The event was rescheduled for this weekend, and Callaway will serve as the host site, with the first of three games beginning at 10 a.m.

While the season for Callaway and LaGrange have gone on unencumbered, Troup was forced to the sidelines for more than two weeks.

Troup returned to competition last week with a loss to Brookstone, and it will get to play two more games on Saturday against its county rivals.

Ryan Simpson, Troup’s first-year head coach, is looking forward to Saturday’s games.

“I feel like it’ll be fun, and it’ll be good for the girls, and I personally am so excited,” Simpson said.

Troup (2-3) was on a two-game winning streak before the season was halted, and it lost to an unbeaten Brookstone squad 10-1 in its first game back.

LaGrange (4-3) will look to get back on the winning track after an extra-inning 4-3 loss to Newnan on Thursday.

LaGrange went 3-0 in the Callaway Classic, but it has lost three of its past four games against some stout competition.

In Thursday’s game, LaGrange rallied from a 3-1 deficit to pull even, but Newnan scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to win it.

Callaway (3-6), meanwhile, is on a two-game winning streak after beating Shaw and Temple.
