Gardner Newman Middle School opened its football season with a pair of games against Auburn on Wednesday at Callaway Stadium.
In the seventh-grade game, it was Auburn capturing a 26-6 victory.
In the eighth-grade game, the two teams went back-and-forth, with Auburn hanging on for a 30-22 win.
Gardner Newman scored three offensive touchdowns, two on the ground, and one through the air.
Quarterback BJ Wortham threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Rob Skinner, and Wortham also had a two-point conversion run.
Jonathan Keys put Gardner Newman on the scoreboard with a 60-yard touchdown run, and Jardon Stringer had a 30-yard scoring run.
