A baby was returned safely to her mother after being inside a vehicle when it was stolen.
According to a press release from the LaGrange Police Department, the vehicle, which was stolen from 1101 Juniper Street, was found unattended on Boulevard Street with the unattended child still inside. The vehicle had been parked behind a residence.
The LPD responded to the scene of 1101 Juniper Street at 11:17 a.m. on Sunday. The victim said she had just parked her 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander outside her residence with her 1-year-old daughter secured in a car seat in the backseat of the vehicle.
The victim said she had walked to the front porch and had become distracted while on the porch. Then, she suddenly saw her vehicle speeding away, according to the LPD press release.
The victim did not see anyone enter the vehicle because her back was turned. The LPD criminal investigations section responded and initiated an investigation while patrol officers saturated the area in search of the vehicle. At 11:44 a.m. — 27 minutes after the LPD responded to the stolen vehicle call — E-911 received a call from a citizen about an unattended child in an abandoned vehicle, which was parked behind a residence.
Officers responded, confirmed it was the Mitsubishi Outlander and returned the child to her mother.
