It’s back-to-back trips to Columbus for the Troup Tigers.

After thumping Columbus High 53-14 last week at Kinnett Stadium, Troup will be at Memorial Stadium on Thursday to face the Kendrick Cherokees.

If Troup wins, it will even its record at 3-3 while improving to 3-1 in Region 2-AAAA.

While everything is trending in the right direction for the Tigers, who have won two straight games in blowout fashion, it’s been a struggle for the Cherokees.

Kendrick (0-4 overall) remained winless and fell to 0-3 in the region with last week’s 37-14 loss to Jordan.

In its four games combined, Kendrick has been outscored 185-28, although it did score a season-best 14 points against Jordan.

For Troup, it’s all about continuing to improve with some critical games on the way, including back-to-back showdowns against Carver and LaGrange, who are both 3-0 in the region.

“We’re in that situation where we’re not trying to look at (Kendrick) as much,” Troup head coach Tanner Glisson said. “They’re athletic. They run around. We are really trying to look and see what we can do to get better. That’s the biggest thing. This stretch right here where we play Spencer, Columbus, Kendrick, we’re just trying to get better, because we know at the back end of our schedule we’ve got some big games coming up.”

Troup had everything working last week against Columbus.

Offensively, freshman Taeo Todd continued to make plays through the air and on the ground, and he had a touchdown pass and two scoring runs.

Anthony Ferguson added a touchdown run for the Tigers, and Marquavious Kelley and Dwartney Wortham both had scoring catches.

Backup quarterback Tyson Duncan got into the act as well with a touchdown pass to Wortham, and Cody Bray made a field goal.

Defensively, Zy Varner returned an interception for a touchdown, and Jacob Bailey scooped up a fumble and rumbled into the end zone for a score, and Bailey also had seven tackles with a sack.

Defensive lineman Jordan Adams, who is having a big senior season, had seven tackles and three sacks, and Tay Shells had four tackles with two for loss.
