DUBLIN – The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors are one win away from a repeat state championship.

LaGrange Academy scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a walk-off 2-1 victory over Thomas Jefferson on Thursday in the opening game of the best-of-three GISA Class A state-championship series.

The teams will play again on Saturday at 1 p.m., and if LaGrange Academy wins, it will be the state champion.

If Thomas Jefferson wins the first game on Saturday, a winner-take-all game will follow.

LaGrange Academy won Thursday’s game in dramatic fashion.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Amber Corley reached on a double, and two pitches later, fellow senior Natalee Waddell won the game with an RBI double of her own.

LaGrange Academy scored its first run in the first inning.

Carolyn Lehman reached on a triple, and she scored on a Corley base hit.

Corley, who along with Waddell earned a spot in the GISA all-state, pitched a complete game to get the victory.

LaGrange Academy is going for its eighth state championship in softball team and its second in a row.
