William “Buck” Herndon
1939-2020
Mr. William “Buck” Herndon, 81, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center.
Born Jan. 24, 1939 in Hogansville, Mr. Herndon was the son of the late Leonard and Valena Collier Herndon.
He was a lifelong resident of Troup County, a member of Grace Baptist Church and retired from the maintenance department at West Georgia Medical Center. In retirement, Mr. Herndon attended West Georgia Tech to become a Licensed Master Barber and operated Buck’s Barber Shop for several years. He was a faithful Mason and Shriner, and at the time of his death he was Worshipful Master at the Elm City Lodge in LaGrange. Mr. Herndon will always be known as a good man who loved and was loved by his friends and family. Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Bailey; sons and daughters in-law, Cornelius and Pam Herndon, Tim and Missy Herndon, and Chad and Tisa Herndon, all of LaGrange; sisters and brothers in-law, Delores Gaddy, Linda Galloway, Gracie and Joseph Moore and Gail and Terry Searels, all of Hogansville; brothers and sister in-law, Richard and Frances Herndon and James Herndon, all of Hogansville; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by his wife, Wylene Strickland Herndon; granddaughter, Celia Bailey Knight; brother, Larry Herndon; and sisters, Patricia Williams and Janice Wilson. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Donnie Benefield and the Reverend Jimmy McMillian will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
