Daniel Charles Kemper, 70, of LaGrange, died at home on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020.

He passed peacefully after several months of illness and was surrounded by his loving family at his death, just as he was in life.  Dan grew up in Chicago and Houston, then moved to Atlanta to study at Georgia Tech, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and performed with the Glee Club, including once on the Ed Sullivan show.

After graduating from Georgia Tech, he completed his MBA at Georgia State and was a certified Professional Engineer.  He spent the bulk of his industrial engineering career working for Coca-Cola until his retirement in 2017.

The center of Dan’s world was his family.  He was the kind of man who did laundry and grocery shopping, fixed the minivan and planned vacations, made up silly songs and packed lunches with modified Far Side comics.  He loved kids and was a favorite play companion to his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  When it came to reading bedtime stories and building play train configurations, he was one of the very best.  Since retiring, he was able to spend more time camping in the RV with his wife, traveling the U.S. and Europe, tinkering around the house, listening to music, and reading science fiction.

He is survived and sorely missed by his wife Martha, to whom he was married for nearly 48 years, and their three children; Alan (Allison) Kemper of LaGrange, Randy (Liz) Kemper of LaGrange, and Melissa (Charles) Westbrook of Atlanta; and nine grandchildren; Danielle, Aaron, Aida, Jacob, Simon, Ian, Cecil, Arthur, and Heath; as well as his four sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.

His family will celebrate his life in a private service, and a virtual memorial will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Habitat for Humanity.  Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home website, www.HigginsLaGrangeChapel.com.  Higgins Funeral Home at Hunger Allen Myhand, 706-884-5626.
