CAMILLA COTTON MYHAND

1925-2020

Mrs. Camilla Cotton Myhand, 95, a life-long resident of Troup County, passed away on Nov. 21, 2020.  Mrs. Myhand was born on April 9, 1925 in West Point, Georgia to the late Harvey Cotton, Sr. and Annie Mae Adams Cotton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Curtis F. Myhand.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange where she taught Sunday School in the Children’s Department for thirty years.  Mrs. Myhand was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, W.M.U., Merry Makers, and involved in the Weekly Prayer Group.  Her volunteer efforts consisted of Meals on Wheels, the LaGrange Clothes Closet, and other activities at the First Baptist on the Square, including her work with the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Ministry.  She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Alumni of Crawford W. Long School of Nursing.

Mrs. Myhand graduated as class Valedictorian from West Point High School and furthered her education at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.  Ultimately, she graduated from the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing and was on the staff of Goldwater Memorial Hospital in New York following graduation.  She later was employed at City-County Hospital and West Georgia Medical Center as a registered nurse for eighteen years.

Mrs. Myhand retired in 1998 as Secretary-Treasurer of Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange, Georgia where she and her husband served countless numbers of families in their time of need.

Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Ellen M. and Kyle McGahee of Augusta, Georgia and Claire M. and Ed Batchelor of LaGrange; grandchildren, Timothy C. McGahee of Augusta, Georgia, Patrick L. McGahee and his wife Carmen B. McGahee of North Augusta, South Carolina, Sarah Ellen McGahee of Austin, Texas, Haley B. Maycock and her husband Daniel Maycock of Immo, South Carolina and John Reed Batchelor of LaGrange; great grandchildren, Preston, Daisy, Meredith, Madelin, and Wil; her several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Myhand was laid to rest next to her husband in Shadowlawn Cemetery.  A private service was held at the cemetery.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange with Pastor Cade Farris and Rev. Paul Blair officiating. Family will greet friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. until service hour.
