The LaGrange Lady Grangers got the job done on the defensive end, holding Shaw to 42 points in Friday night’s Region 2-AAAA showdown.
Unfortunately for the Lady Grangers, they were unable to find much offensive success themselves during a 42-32 loss on senior night at LaGrange High.
LaGrange, which split its first two Region 2-AAAA games of the season against Columbus and Kendrick, fell to 1-2 in the region.
Corriah Williams scored 15 points and accounted for nearly half of LaGrange’s points, and Brandasia Cofield added 10 points.
Despite their scoring difficulties in the first half, the Lady Grangers were still very much in the game, with the Lady Raiders clinging to a 13-10 lead at the break.
LaGrange got a layup from Cofield moments into the third quarter, and Shaw’s lead was down to one point.
After Shaw went up by four, Carmen Lynch scored to get LaGrange within two with 6:50 left in the third quarter.
Later in the quarter after Shaw built a double-digit lead, Williams made a pair of 3-pointers to keep LaGrange within shouting distance, and the deficit was 31-22 heading to the fourth quarter.
While the Lady Grangers stayed in it during the fourth quarter, they couldn’t get any closer than eight points, and the Lady Raiders earned the 10-point win.
LaGrange has a road game against Kendrick on Tuesday.
