MACON – A trio of Troup High wrestlers made their presence felt at the Class AAAA girls’ state tournament on Wednesday.
Haylee Ward, Jazmine Goode and Loriana Reed combined for nine wins during the tournament in the Macon Coliseum.
While Goode and Reed each won multiple matches and were close to placing, Ward secured one win.
The showing by the Troup student-athletes was particularly impressive considering there was just one tournament for wrestlers in each of the state’s seven classifications.
Reed and Goode, who are both freshmen, did an outstanding job of making a run after losing their first matches.
Goode, competing in the 142-pound weight class, lost her opener before winning four straight matches, and her run ended with a loss to Monroe Area’s Te’Yarah Lett in the consolation round.
In the 132-pound weight class, Reed also won four consecutive matches after her loss, and she fell to Harris County’s Mia Buckner in the consolation round.
Ward, wrestling in the 122-pound division, lost her first match before getting a win, and her tournament ended with a loss to McEachern’s Anastasia Georges.
