James Burrett Haralson, Sr. passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on Feb. 17, 2021, at the age of 93. He was the husband of Betty Jean Valeri Haralson and they were married over 70 years.

Born in 1927, in West Point, Georgia, James was one of two sons born to Thomas Pierce Haralson, Sr. and Afton Elizabeth Denham Haralson.  James attended West Point High School and lettered in football and basketball. 

He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, pursuing Architecture. James took a deferment in his 4th year in college; he served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Korea before returning to complete his degree.

James is survived by his lovely wife Betty Jean Valeri Haralson, a son, two surviving daughters, much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Over the course of his life, he was active in Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity at Georgia Tech, President of the Civic Club and the Jaycees, active in the Bulldog Club and honorably discharged from the Georgia State Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers.  One of his greatest achievements was building the East End Stadium addition to the University of Georgia football field.

James will be cremated at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens.

Due to current Covid concerns, the family may contemplate a memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to any Alzheimer’s disease association would be appreciated in his name.
