The Callaway Cavaliers opened their season with three straight home wins over the weekend, and they captured two of those victories on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Callaway kicked things off with a 6-4 win over Upson-Lee on Friday, and it beat Lafayette Christian 4-1 and Brookstone 6-2 on Saturday.

Here’s a look at each of the games:

FRIDAY

CALLAWAY 6,  UPSON-LEE 4

The Cavaliers started quickly with three runs in the first inning, and they led the rest of the way en route to the season-opening win.

Leadoff hitter CJ Stephens had two hits and a walk, and Bryce Hubbard had an RBI double and he reached twice on walks.

Justin Moore and Eli Freeman each had a hit and an RBI, and Andrew Locke and Tucker Starling each had a hit.

Five different Callaway pitchers combined to get the job done on the mound.

Moore started and threw two shutout innings, and after Hubbard, Garrett Huckleberry and Jacob Miles each threw one inning, Starling finished things off with two scoreless innings.

SATURDAY

CALLAWAY 4, LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN 1

The Cougars struck first for a run in the top of the first inning, but they were held scoreless the rest of the way by Tucker Starling and Garrett Huckleberry.

Starling started and pitched six strong innings, limiting the Cougars to one run on three hits while striking out five.

Huckleberry worked a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.

Offensively, Blake Sheppard had two hits with a double and an RBI, and Eli Freeman had a double and two RBIs.

Will Cavender had a hit and an RBI, Andrew Locke had a double, and Bryce Hubbard had a hit.

For Lafayette Christian, Nathan Karvelas had two hits with a double and an RBI, Cason Firth had a double, and Bryce Tumlin had an RBI.

Adam Barnett, Nathan Karvelas and Jacob Karvelas each pitched for Lafayette Christian.

CALLAWAY 6, BROOKSTONE 2

Justin Moore, making his first start of the season, had no trouble making his way through Brookstone’s lineup.

Moore, a junior who is expected to anchor the Cavaliers’ rotation, pitched 5 2/3 innings, and he gave up no runs on three hits while striking out seven.

Bryce Hubbard pitched the final 1 1/3 innings.

Offensively, the Cavaliers only had three hits, but they walked seven times.

Hubbard had a hit and an RBI, Moore drove in a run, and CJ Stephens and Jacob Miles each had a hit.
