The City of LaGrange is adding an additional litter cleanup this month on Saturday Feb. 27 from to 8 to 10 a.m.
Volunteers will meet in the front of Berta Weathersbee Elementary School, 1200 Forrest Avenue in LaGrange.
During this litter cleanup, crews will be picking up litter in the neighborhood near Berta Weathersbee Elementary School around Forrest Avenue and 4th Avenue.
LaGrange police Sgt. Clayton Bryant said that the new recruits who were doing their field training program had to canvas the neighborhood and go door to door to identify the top three to five quality of life issues and crime issues in the area.
“In this particular area, the issue was trash,” Bryant said. “It has two dead end streets that appear to be used as dumps by citizens and people passing by. The majority of problem is not the people that live there.”
Bryant said they reached out to the city to do a clean-up shortly after.
The public is welcome to participate and the city is providing all supplies.
Residents, businesses or groups that would like to partner with the City of LaGrange on any of these events or if you’d like to host your own litter cleanup, contact Katie Mercer Van Schoor at kvanschoor@lagrangega.org.
