Callaway soccer teams get road wins

The Callaway Cavaliers, after fighting Mount Zion to a scoreless draw in regulation, got the upper-hand on penalty kicks to earn a 1-0 road victory on Wednesday.
After regulation, there was no overtime period, and they went straight to penalty kicks.
Callaway made three penalty kicks while Mount Zion only converted one, and that was the difference.
It was the second win of the season for the Cavaliers (2-3-1), who were coming off a 1-1 tie with Central-Phenix City last week.
In Wednesday’s game, after Mount Zion missed its first penalty kick, Nelson Herrera knocked the ball into the net to give Callaway the 1-0 edge.
Following another Mount Zion miss, Brett Belton made his penalty kick, and Callaway had a commanding 2-0 lead.
After Mount Zion made a penalty kick, Callaway’s Nick Smith had his attempt stopped, and things tightened up a bit.
John Will White then came through a clutch save for Callaway, and Blake Eubanks converted his attempt for the game-winner.
White had some critical saves during regulation.
In the girls’ game, Callaway rolled to a 5-1 victory.Keeley McGuffin had a huge game for the Lady Cavaliers with four goals, and Madeline Sabans added one goal.
