William “Philip” Thompson, passed away on April 10, 2021. He was born in Salem Community, Georgia on August 14, 1931 to the late Willie Henry Thompson and Stella Izora Phillips Thompson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Thompson; their son, Douglas L. Shierling; his sisters, Mary Frances Thompson Cook and Joan Wyolene Thompson; their nephew-in-law, Rickey Huffstutler.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the Church of Christ – Northside. He retired from Georgia Power after many years of service. He was a Mason; having attended the Mason Lodge # 53 in Moreland Georgia.

Mr. William “Philip” Thompson is survived by his wife, Betty Jean McWaters Thompson; their children, Cynthia J. Spradlin (Tommy), Linda Sue J. Coker (Steve), Will O. Jones (Patti), Gerson Jones (Angela), and Kellie J. Dingler (Joel); nieces, Lochlyn Cook Knight (Ronny), Susan Cook Huffstutler, and Donna Cook Bradley (Ricky); their daughter-in-law, Linda Shierling Smith (Charles) their grandchildren, Wendy Shierling Kelly (Creighton) and Mandy Shierling Hill (Jason); 13 other grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; several other nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they make their way through this very challenging time.

The graveside funeral service will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 1 p.m. Preacher Frank Lyons and Preacher Norm Fields will officiate the service.
