Cavaliers wrap up regular season

The Callaway High baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 road loss to Northside-Columbus on Friday.

Callaway (17-9), which finished second in Region 5-AA, will host a first-round series against Union County in the state playoffs next week.

Friday’s game was tied at 1-1 before the Patriots took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Trailing 1-0, the Cavaliers scored their lone run in the top of the sixth, with Tucker Starling scoring on a wild pitch after reaching on an error earlier in the inning.

CJ Stephens had two of Callaway’s six hits, and Starling, Kaden Rogers, Jacob Miles and Blake Sheppard each had one hit.

Justin Moore, who figures to be Callaway’s game one starter against Union County, started and pitched two scoreless innings.

Jimmie Dukes pitched the next 3 2/3 innings for Callaway, and Brantin Swanson got the final out in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ryan Grantham started for Northside and pitched four shutout innings, and Connor Michel gave up one run in three innings.
