Oak Grove Church is holding a fundraising yard sale Saturday to pay for a trip to Ark Encounter, a museum based on the biblical story of Noah’s ark in Williamstown, Kentucky.
The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at 1264 Oak Grove Road.
“I know the trip is going to probably cost around $1,000 to $1,500,” said Youth Leader Margie Heard, who added that the last time Oak Grove Church held a similar event was 10 to 15 years ago.
The yard sale has been organized by Heard and other adult church members. Youth will help with tasks such as getting items out and setting up tables.
In addition to yard sale items at the event, refreshments will be sold. Visitors can get a hot dog plate for $6 or two sausage biscuits and a cup of coffee for $2.
Anyone who wants to donate items to the yard sale should call Heard at (706) 773-7793. The deadline for dropping off donations at the church is Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m. Heard said she’ll give donors papers from the church that they can use for their taxes.
“And then, the day of, if people just want to donate money toward the cause, that would be greatly appreciated also,” Heard said.
Only cash will be accepted as a payment method.
“It’s a small church, but we do a lot with the small amount that we have,” Heard said.
According to Ark Encounter’s website, the museum features “the most authentic full-size replica of Noah’s Ark in the world, built according to the dimensions given in the Bible, with three decks of teaching exhibits.”
