George Henderson Barnes passed away Friday.
He was born August 25, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to Charlie Lucille Barnes and Robert Douglas Chatman.
He was baptized at an early age at the United Church of Altgeld Gardens, graduated from Carver High School in Chicago, Illinois, served in the U.S. Air Force, and retired from ArcelorMittal Steel Company on July 10, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emlyn Barnes; son, Antoinne (Valencia) Barnes; daughter, Tahirah (Donovan) Washington; two stepchildren: Curtis (Alease) Brown and Angela (James) Thigpen; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Barnes; sisters: Dorothy Barnes and Robbin Chatman-Banks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The public viewing will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; the family will receive friends on Saturday at 10 a.m.; the Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. All services will take place in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home.
