On Saturday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., West Georgia Star will host a Father & Son 2 on 2 Basketball Tournament at the Phoenix Way basketball court on Revis Street, according to a news release from the Boys & Girls Club of West Georgia.

All proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club of West Georgia and will be used for afterschool and summer program activities. There will be music, food, and guest referees.

Interested fathers can register for $25 at 201 Chatham Street.

The registration hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The official last day to register is June 23.

“We will also take some on-site registrations as well,” Black said.

Though the program begins at 10 a.m., Black said participants should show up by 9 a.m. to check in.

If a dad isn’t able to attend, his son can team up with a dad duplicate at the event.

“The dad duplicates are members of local fraternities, community service groups, male figures from our staff, and some other male volunteers,” Black said.

According to their website, the Boys & Girls Club of West Georgia aims to help young people reach their full potential as “responsible, caring, productive citizens.”

It has sites in Troup and Chambers County and serves over 1,000 youth annually.

Black explained that the Boys & Girls Club of West Georgia is an arm of the Boys & Girls Club of America.

“It was run separately in LaGrange as of March 2021. LaGrange Housing Authority and West Georgia Star took over management of the Boys & Girls Club. So, it is a local agency. It’s been around and supported by United Way and the Georgia Alliance. They support it with funding as well.”

According to Black, the Omega Psi Phi fraternity will be holding a blood drive at the event.
