Families and friends enjoyed a day of fun in the sun and a nighttime display of fireworks on July 4 at Pyne Road Park. Hosted by Troup County Parks and Recreation and sponsored by Jackson Services, the event featured local food vendors and live music by Eley Road. Guests made themselves at home under the shade of canopies and trees. Many splashed and swam in West Point Lake.
Attendee Bryant Anderson said he enjoyed seeing people enjoy themselves.
“I’m a veteran, and just seeing the work that I’ve done and the sacrifices that I’ve made just so the people who are here can enjoy themselves for the day and actually feel free is real big to me,” he said. “That’s the greatest thank you that I can ever get, just being able to see people come out and enjoy themselves.”
Attendee Mallory Mitchell said she had been attending the annual event since she was little.
“I am most looking forward to the fireworks,” she said. “The finale here is always amazing.”
At the event was a large tent provided by Jackson Services. It contained a privacy area called “Colin’s Room,” inspired by LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce chairman Dale Jackson’s son, Colin. According to a sign, the privacy area was created to accommodate people with special needs and their families.
Visitors could use it for purposes such as changing clothes, changing diapers, breastfeeding, or addressing medical needs.
A Troup County press release about the event thanked the following for providing first aid and security: AMR/Troup County EMS, Troup County Fire Department, Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Troup County E-911, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
