There will be a back to school pep rally at Hogansville Elementary School on Saturday, July 31 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be free backpacks stuffed with school supplies, free food and drinks, games, people dressed up as characters, face painting, and a car giveaway for high school seniors.

According to Angela Price, event co-organizer and owner of Teachable Moments Early Learning Center, K-12 students from anywhere in Georgia are invited to attend.

Price said the other event organizer is Elevations and Development, a youth program owned by Charon Prophet.

“The Hogansville Police Department and the Troup County Sheriff’s Department, along with the athletic department of Hogansville Elementary School, will be setting up obstacle courses on the football field,” Price said. “The pep rally, itself is going to take place inside the Hogansville Elementary gym.”

Price said 1,000 backpacks will be given away at the event.

Each will be stuffed with school supplies such as notebook paper, pencils, crayons, folders, and binders.

The car to be given away will be a used, gray 2009 Honda Accord. The names of three high school seniors will be pulled to win the car at the pep rally.

“If you don’t check out to be a senior, then we’ll have to go to that second name that we pulled,” Price said.

The two students who don’t win the car will get gift cards.

Free food at the event will include shaved ice, hot dogs, popcorn, barbecue sandwiches by Roger’s Bar-B-Que of Hogansville, and chips.

As for drinks, there will be Propel water and fruit juices.

Price said there will be music in the gym and on the football field.

Callaway High School cheerleaders will be present.

Additionally, there will be an anti-bullying speaker.

Price said she held a similar event in Hogansville last year.

For the past 20 years, Price said she’s supported other people’s back-to-school events.

But after having a small heart attack, she was inspired to hold her own to be remembered by.

“When I was going through that, it occurred to me, ‘What has Angela done for her community, herself?’” she said. “I want to encourage children to do [their] best, do [their] best in school, [say] ‘You can succeed.’”

This event is being sponsored by Teachable Moments Early Learning Center, Marichal Price (a Hogansville city council member and Angela’s husband), Rid’N Steady (Marichal’s business), and Elevations and Development.
