A new coffee shop, located at 407 N. Greenwood Street, will open in LaGrange on Aug. 7. Located on the Granger Park portion of The Thread, Local Groundz Coffee Company will sell organic, fair-trade, small farmer coffee from Café Campesino, which is based in Americus. Additionally, it will sell items such as smoothies, pastries and a chicken salad wraps.
“We are probably going to do some giveaways [for the grand opening] and things like that for a certain amount of people coming in the door, but we haven’t really put them down in stone yet,” shop manager Carla Martinez said.
The 2,500 square-foot main floor features furniture and signage made by local vendors, including countertops made by CRLG in LaGrange. Extra parking and a 1,300 square foot, pet-friendly patio are in the back. The business will be able to host 200 people at a time.
Martinez said the business’ location near the Thread and downtown neighborhoods would encourage walking.
“It’s going to be a fun place to be and exciting for events. It’s going to be a landmark for LaGrange and just something good for our community,” she said.
The facility will be able to be rented out for private events such as parties. Additionally, the business has four offices upstairs to rent out. Local Groundz was previously expected to open in November of 2020, but this was delayed due to construction. The renovated facility used to be a church parish, investment broker office, dentist office, and a 1920’s home.
