Community Action for Improvement on 1380 LaFayette Parkway announced via a press release that it is currently accepting applicants for its Elevate workshops. These workshops can be attended in person or virtually and are open to all couples in a committed relationship. The goal of the program is to learn skills and manage stress to help “elevate” your relationship and it is broken down into eight 90 minute sessions.

Yvette Thomas, a program associate for CAFI, said in an interview that this workshop is not therapy. Instead it is a partnership with the University of Georgia focused on education.

“It is a free workshop that’s not therapy. It’s not counseling. It’s a 12-hour program curriculum workshop. We partner with UGA, and their Project Free team to offer the classes,” Thomas said. “We offer free childcare, breakfast and a light lunch as well as incentives for participating in the in-person workshops.”

Thomas said the program is offered throughout Georgia, but there is a location in LaGrange for Troup County residents.

“They’re offered throughout Georgia at different locations, but our center is here in LaGrange. We usually do it on Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” Thomas said.

If couples would like to attend from home, Thomas said there is a virtual option. She said anyone interested in the programs can register online.

“We are recruiting for virtual courses or workshops as well. Some of the UGA Extension sites will be hosting the virtual workshops on different days,” she said.

“If someone is interested, they can go to the elevatecouplesga.com and complete the interest form. Based on that information and their location, they’ll receive a call.”
