The Callaway boys’ soccer team is off to its best start in team history. On Tuesday, they demolished New Manchester 9-0 to keep their scorching start to the season intact.
The Cavaliers were led to victory by Jostin Raymundo, who contributed two goals and a hat trick of assists; Blake Eubanks chipped in with two goals himself, but the goals were spread all throughout the team. Connor Davis, Nelson Herrera, Luis Trinidad, Brett Belton, and Dre Jennings all got on the scoresheet with a goal apiece. Herrera, Journee Jordan, Greyson Batchelor and Angel Velasquez all contributed an assist in the game as well.
The Cavaliers were able to keep their third clean sheet in a row — their only three on the season. Nitler Recinos saved two shots and Byraden Morris had one save as the two split time in goal.
The Cavaliers dominated the game, which was best represented by the shots on goal differential (19:3).
The defense for the Cavaliers has been strong all season with the team only allowing more than one goal on a single occasion — a game they won 3-2 earlier this month.
Callaway is now 6-0-2 on the season. In their two draws, it was the lack of scoring that contributed to the ties and not the defense as the Cavaliers scored just a single goal across the two games. The Cavaliers next game is home versus Bowdon on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Callaway starts region play with an away game at Bremen on March. 1.
