Welcome home thy good and faithful servant! Danny was born on April 12, 1937 to Durwood Curtis and Sylvia Walters Curtis in Clark County, Kentucky. He was raised in Winchester, Kentucky until he joined the military in 1954.
Danny was preceded in death by his father Durwood Curtis, his mother Sylvia Walters Curtis and brothers Paul Curtis, Kenneth Curtis, Ronald Curtis and Ford Curtis.
Danny is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Martha Sheppard Curtis, wonderful daughter Martha Paige Stewart (Billy Stewart), four precious grandchildren, Grayson Stewart, Olivia Stewart, Anna Kate Stewart and Talbot Stewart, all of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia Lucille Frailey of Mt Sterling, KY and Estella Mae Chambers of Winchester, KY and a host of loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in both GA and KY.
Danny loved God and Country. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 during the Korean War and was stationed in Korea, Iceland and the Savannah Defense (Nuclear Power Plant) during that time. Following his military service, Danny was employed by West Point Foundry and Machinery before retiring in 1999. He also worked at WCJM for 30 years as a gospel DJ.
Danny had a great love for Southern Gospel Music. He sang with the Brown Brothers Quartet (Valley, AL) and the Danny Curtis Singers for 25 years and later, the Reunion Quartet.
Danny was Nazarene by faith and a long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene in Lanett, AL and served as a Deacon for many years. He also served on the Advisory Board for the South District of Alabama Church of the Nazarene, which is the highest office a layperson can serve. He later became a member of Shawmut Nazarene Church of Valley, AL and most recently attended Grace Baptist Church of LaGrange, GA which he dearly loved.
Danny was an avid supporter of Valley Haven School in Valley, AL receiving their “Man of the Year Award” in 2019. He also served as manager for the Troup County Board of Elections for twenty years.
Danny always enjoyed playing golf and was an avid supporter of The University of Alabama – ROLL TIDE!, where two of his grandchildren currently attend. Most of all, Danny loved spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren.
He loved his grandchildren with all his heart, and they loved their PawPaw back just as much.
